Piduruthalagala Mountain Range
Piduruthalagala Mountain, also called Mount Pedro in English is the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. This ultra-prominent peak is located to the North-East of Nuwara Eliya and rises to a mammoth elevation of 2524m above sea level. The mountain is capped with lush green vegetation and houses a forest reserve surrounding it at its base. Trekking is strictly prohibited in the Piduruthalagala Mountain, but during certain periods of the year, a drive to the peak of the mountain is allowed, and really does provide a picturesque view of the tiny island.

Hakgala Botanical Gardens
The Hakgala Botanical Gardens located in Nuwara Eliya, is one of three Botanical Gardens in Sri Lanka, and is the second largest after the Peradeniya Botanical gardens in Kandy. Established in 1861 for the purpose of Cinchona cultivation, it was later converted to an area of tea cultivation, until finally in 1884, it was transformed into a vibrant and attractive Botanical Garden. Today is houses more than 10,000 different species of flora and attracts a crowd of more than 500,000 visitors annually.

Gregory Lake Park
The Gregory Lake, created in 1873 by Sir William Gregory who was the British governor at the time, is located in the town of Nuwara Eliya and was established with the purpose of directing its flowing waters to the hydropower station close by, in order to provide electricity to the town. And this purpose had been fulfilled to this day. With time, the lake has also become a recreational point, and with the recent facelift provided to the town of Nuwara Eliya, the area around the lake has been transformed into a park with a multitude of leisure activities such as pony rides, boat rides, windsurfing and jet skiing.
